⦿ Field Notes 1 // Longer days, humanising AI, and Oblivion

Welcome to the first edition of Field Notes.

This is a tech-centred newsletter – but with a personal lens. Alongside posts from my own blog, I’ll be sharing thought-provoking discussions and ideas from around the internet that made me stop and think.

I’m coming out of a transitional period and finally settling into a more grounded rhythm. The days are getting longer, the sun’s returning, and I’ve got that familiar itch to start writing again – but more personally this time.

My blog has long been a place for technical posts on cyber security and coding. But going forward, you’ll see more notes on the intersection of tech, design, and life – small thoughts and reflections, not just solutions.

I hope you find something useful or surprising here. And if a post or link leads you down an interesting rabbit hole, please feel free to send me an email. I’ll read everything, even if I can’t always respond to every message.

Things that left an impression

Field notes from the world of technology and design in the past month:

  • Podcaster Stephen West joined The Tim Ferriss Show with the inspiring message that people who make it big with podcasts or YouTube channels aren’t geniuses - they just say something that resonates with people

  • Architect David Dewane dropped by Cal Newport’s podcast The Deep Life, amongst other things discussing his decision to cash in his 401(k) and swap his city life for a countryside home with a writing cottage

  • Where to start on Oblivion Remastered… Oblivion was a huge part of my teenage years and I’m very happy to see it get such an upgrade. I just hope Bethesda has a disc release for us soon - digital-only releases suck

That’s all for now - I’ll see you next month!
